I grew up in this trade, working weekends and summers beside my father. This work is my passion, and I put my heart into every job. My job is to take what you picture for your yard and build it.

Built from a lifetime in the trade

Select Landscape may have officially become a licensed contracting company in 2015, but our roots in landscaping go back much further.

Our story began in the 1980s, when my father started working in the landscaping industry. He worked for several landscaping companies, learning the trade from the ground up before eventually going out on his own in 2000.

For me, landscaping was never just a job I decided to get into. It was something I grew up around.

As a kid, weekends and summers were spent working alongside my dad. I learned by doing: digging, irrigation, planting, concrete, grading, cleanup, and all the hard work that goes into transforming a property. Before I ever had a contractor's license, I had already spent years working in the field and learning how projects actually get built.

In 2015, I earned my California contractor's license and started building Select Landscape into a company of my own.

Why Select Landscape?

The name Select Landscape represents the kind of company I wanted to build: a company homeowners could select for the entire outdoor project rather than having to coordinate multiple contractors.

Over the years, our work has expanded beyond traditional landscaping into complete outdoor construction, including concrete, hardscape, irrigation, drainage, outdoor living spaces, patio covers, grading, artificial turf, and full landscape transformations.

Today, Select Landscape combines the hands-on experience passed down through my family with modern construction methods, equipment, design, and professional project management.

We haven't forgotten how the business started. We still believe in showing up, working hard, building things correctly, and treating every property as if our name is going on it, because it is.

Our timeline

  1. 1980s

    My father begins working in the landscaping industry, gaining hands-on experience with several companies and learning the trade.

  2. 2000

    After years of working in landscaping, my father begins operating his own landscaping business. I grow up around the work, equipment, customers, and day-to-day life of the trade.

  3. 2000s

    Summers, weekends, and time away from school are spent helping my dad on landscaping projects. What starts as helping the family business becomes years of real-world experience.

  4. 2015

    I earn my California contractor's license and begin developing Select Landscape as a professional landscape construction company.

  5. 2015 to 2020

    Select Landscape grows through referrals and completed projects, taking on larger landscape, irrigation, concrete, hardscape, and outdoor construction projects.

    We continue investing in equipment, construction capabilities, and services, allowing us to handle increasingly complex projects from beginning to end.

    Select Landscape continues to serve Bakersfield and surrounding communities with a focus on complete outdoor transformations, quality construction, and a lifetime of hands-on experience.

While Select Landscape has been licensed since 2015, the experience behind the company spans two generations and more than four decades in the landscaping industry.

How soon can you start my project?

Scheduling depends on the size of the project, our current workload, material availability, permits and other project requirements. Once your quote is approved we can give you an anticipated start date.

Can I make changes or add work after my project has started?

Yes. Changes or additional work can usually be accommodated, even while the crew is already there. Tell us what you would like added and we will review it and provide pricing or a written change order before the work is performed. Anything outside the original contract may carry additional cost.

Is all work covered under warranty?

Warranty coverage depends on the type of work performed and the terms of your contract. Contact us with the project address and the issue, and we will determine whether the repair is covered.

How can I make a payment?

Payment options and payment schedules are provided with your quote or contract. If you have a question about your balance or next payment, contact us with your name and project address.
