Concrete patios

What's not to like about a concrete patio? They are inexpensive, low maintenance, and for most households they are the practical way to get a little more outdoor living.

A patio can be covered to be usable on a summer day, or fitted with a firepit for the cooler months. If a patio cover is part of the plan, the slab gets poured for it, with the footings where the posts will go. See Alumawood patio covers.

Concrete driveways and walkways

Concrete is the right material for driveways and walkways for a plain reason: it is durable and needs very little maintenance, and it gives you a range of decorative options. We plan the driveway with you before anything is formed.

Two cars need a wider driveway; if the house sits back from the street, a single lane that widens near the garage often makes more sense. A curved driveway can do more for the front of the house than anything else you spend on. Concrete driveways can be poured in any size or shape.

Stamped and colored concrete

Stamped concrete gives you the look of stone, brick or wood plank on a poured slab. Colored concrete does the same job with tone instead of pattern, and the two combine. We bring the samples out to the estimate, so you choose the pattern and the color in your own yard, in your own light, before anything is poured.

Pouring concrete in Bakersfield heat

The National Weather Service puts our normal July high at 98 degrees, and we average about 33 days a year at 100 or more. Concrete poured into that sets fast, and concrete that dries too fast is concrete that cracks.

So summer pours start early in the morning, the slab is kept damp while it cures, and control joints are cut where the slab wants to move rather than where it looks tidy. Winter is easy here. We rarely see a freeze, so concrete season in Bakersfield runs all year.

Why hire a landscaper for your concrete

Because the concrete is never the whole job. The sprinkler lines run under it. The drainage has to go around it.

The patio cover sits on it and the planting frames it. A concrete-only contractor pours a slab and leaves; then somebody else works around what is now permanent. We hold both licences and one crew does both, so the slab, the drainage, the irrigation and the plants get planned as one yard and built in the right order.

Concrete for business properties in Bakersfield

We pour for business properties as well as homes: walkways, pads, dumpster slabs, curbs and the concrete around a storefront's landscaping. Commercial work gets scheduled around your hours, and because we also do the landscape construction around it, the concrete and the planting are planned as one job.

Concrete questions from Bakersfield homeowners

Ask us something else

How do I find a reliable concrete contractor in Bakersfield?

Ask for the CSLB licence number and check it carries a C-8 classification, which is the concrete licence. Ask for the quote in writing.

Ask to see samples before you choose a finish. Ask who will be on site. Ours is in the footer of every page, it carries C-8 and C-27, the quote is always written, and our own crew is on site.

Do you do stamped concrete?

Yes. Stamped and colored, in the patterns and tones that read as stone, brick or wood. Samples come to the estimate.

How long before I can use new concrete?

Usually you can walk on it the next day and drive on it after about a week, and we give you the exact wait for your pour, because heat changes it.

What time of year is best to pour concrete in Bakersfield?

Any month. Spring and fall are the easiest. Summer pours start at dawn and get cured carefully. Winter is fine because we almost never freeze.
