Privacy Policy

Who we are and what this policy covers
Select Landscape Inc. is a licensed landscaping company in Bakersfield, California. This policy explains what information we collect when you use selectlandscapeinc.com, request a free estimate, or call, text or email us, and what we do with it.
We keep it plain because we want you to actually read it. If anything is unclear, ask us. The contact details are at the end.
What we collect
We collect three kinds of information.
- Information you give us. Your name, phone number, email address and the address of the property when you request a free estimate. What you need done and any details or photos you send. Anything you tell us in a call, text or email, and any review you write.
- Information your phone or computer sends. When you use the site, we and our analytics providers collect your device type, browser, rough location, the pages you view and how you got here, through cookies and similar tools. The cookies section below has the details.
- Call recordings and transcripts. Calls to our phone line may be recorded and transcribed so we get your request right. The section on calls below explains how that works.
This site does not take payments. When you pay a deposit or an invoice, you do it through a secure link we send you, and your card or bank details go straight to our payment processor. We never see or store the full numbers.
Where your information comes from
Almost everything we hold, you handed us yourself.
- From you. The free estimate form on this site, the chat window, a phone call, a text, an email, or a conversation with us at your property.
- From your browser. The cookies and analytics tools described below, when you visit the site.
- From Google. If you call or message us through our Google Business Profile, Google passes us your details with the message. A Google review you write is public, and we may quote it on this site with your first name and last initial.
- From our own past records. If you have hired us before, we already hold your details from that job, and we may load them into the system we use to keep in touch with customers.
We do not buy contact lists, and nobody sells us your details.
How we use what we collect
We use your information to run the business, and for very little else.
- To schedule and carry out your free estimate, prepare your written quote, and do the work you hire us for.
- To reply to you and to send confirmations, reminders and updates about your estimate, quote or job.
- To ask for a review after a job, and occasionally to let past customers know about a service we offer. You can opt out of both at any time.
- To show our work. We photograph the jobs we do, and those photos may appear on this site, on our Google Business Profile and on social media. Tell us if you would rather your property was not shown and we will take it down.
- To understand how people use the site so we can improve it.
- To run and measure our advertising, so we reach people looking for landscaping in our area.
- To keep the records California requires a licensed contractor to keep, and to protect the site and the business from fraud and misuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own advertising.
Texting, calling and email
When you request a free estimate and tick the consent box, you agree that Select Landscape may call, text and email you about your estimate, your quote and your job. Message frequency varies with your project. A typical estimate brings a handful of texts: a confirmation, a reminder, your quote and a follow up or two. Message and data rates may apply.
If we have worked for you before, we may also send you an occasional message about a service we offer or ask you for a review. We text you only if your consent to be texted is already on file, and every one of those messages tells you how to stop.
Reply STOP to any text and the texts stop. Reply HELP for help. You can also email us and we will switch texts off for you. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link.
You do not have to agree to texts to hire us. Call us instead and we will work with you by phone.
We will not share or sell your mobile phone number, or your consent to receive texts, with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. Your number is used to talk to you about your project and for nothing else.
Calls to our phone line
Calls to (661) 605-5831 are answered by a virtual assistant when the crew is out on jobs. It is software, not a person, and it tells you so at the start of the call. It can book your free estimate, take a message or pass you to a team member.
Calls may be recorded and transcribed so your request is captured accurately. California law requires that you know this, so the assistant says it up front. If you would rather not be recorded, reach us by text or email instead. The assistant and the recordings run on a phone system provider that handles them for us and cannot use them for anything else.
How long we keep information
How long we keep something depends on what it is. These are the periods we work to.
- Customer records. Your details, the estimate, the quote, the signed agreement, the invoices and the job photos: while you are a customer, and for 10 years after the last job we do for you. California gives a homeowner up to 10 years to raise a claim about construction work, so we keep the record for as long as we could be asked about it.
- Texts, emails and chat conversations with you. Kept with your customer record, on the same clock.
- Requests that never became a job. 3 years from the last time we heard from you, then deleted.
- Call recordings and transcripts. 12 months, then the phone system deletes them automatically. Anything from a call we need to remember is written onto your record as a note before then.
- Website analytics. Google Analytics keeps its data no longer than 14 months. Microsoft Clarity keeps a session replay for 30 days, and the click and scroll data behind its heatmaps for 9 months.
- Your cookie choice. 180 days, after which the banner asks you again.
- Accounting and tax records. 7 years, because that is how far back the tax authorities can ask.
When a period runs out we delete the information or strip out anything that identifies you. Ask us to delete something sooner and we will, unless we need it for a job in progress or a legal duty, and we will tell you which.
Your choices
You are in control of how we contact you.
- Texts: reply STOP to any message, or email us.
- Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any marketing email, or email us.
- Cookies: use the banner when you arrive, the cookie settings button at any time after that, or your browser settings.
- Consent: where we act on your consent, such as texts or the cookies that are not strictly necessary, you can take it back at any time. That does not undo anything we did while it was in place.
- Your information: email us to see what we hold about you, to correct it, or to ask us to delete it. We will do so unless we need to keep it for a job in progress or a legal duty.
Your California privacy rights
California residents have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act: to know what personal information a business collects and how it is used and shared, to ask for a copy in a form you can take elsewhere, to have it corrected or deleted, to opt out of any sale or sharing, and not to be treated differently for exercising these rights. These rights come with exceptions, for example where we must keep records by law.
Whether or not the law requires it of a business our size, we honor these requests for everyone. Email info@selectlandscapeinc.com. We will confirm it is you before we act, usually by matching the details we already hold, and we respond within 45 days. You can also have someone you authorize make the request for you.
California also gives you the right to limit how a business uses sensitive personal information. We do not collect any. We hold no social security numbers, no account passwords, no precise location, and nothing about your health, race, religion or private life, so there is nothing here to limit.
If you think we got this wrong
Tell us first. Email info@selectlandscapeinc.com, say what happened, and we will look into it and come back to you.
You do not have to go through us. A California resident can complain to the California Privacy Protection Agency at cppa.ca.gov, or to the California Attorney General at oag.ca.gov/privacy.
Children
This site is for adults arranging work on their property. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Keeping information safe
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. Our systems sit behind password protected accounts, connections to the site are encrypted, and only the people who need your details to do their job can see them. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we take it seriously.
Links to other sites
The site links to our Google Business Profile, the Better Business Bureau, the Contractors State License Board, Facebook and Instagram. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one does not cover them.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information in a meaningful way, we will say so on this page or tell you directly.
